Hello Penny, Sending you happy thoughts for a great weekend!

I really dislike it when people ask to be my "friend" and do not leave a message, comment or their space is inaccessible. Are they that insecure that they need all these "friends".

Quiet and Wet Here

Things have been really quiet and wet here the past week or so.  I am on my second type of anti biotic and I do not seem to have much energy.  I have not ridden for a week, which is not good.  I am planning on riding Tuesday and/or Wednesday and possibly Friday.  I will just start going tot he arena alone if I cannot get anyone else to come.  I have one or two friends that have talked about riding with me.  I need to start working the filly one day a week and I do have a friend that is interested in helping me with that.  She can ride Miss Minnie around while I work Duchess.

Yesterday was somewhat nice and today is not.  Got cold and windy.  Snow in the mountains.  Princess went with Uncle Adam yesterday and today she is doing some log pulling on Tracy's uncle's place.  I hope they have a good time.  Prin is a good worker and Adam and she have a good bond.

I am cooking brownies for Garry and then off to clean the barn.  The fire is going, so the house is cozy.

Sally is a wonderful dog and is doing well with our family. I am so glad we were able to give her a home.

Two rides first week of November

In between rain days we got out twice last week.  Dolores and I rode for the first time since spring.  Her horse JR had been hurt in spring sometime and was laid up and Dolores had gotten hurt at the end of June.  We had an amazing ride, both horses did well.  Miss Minnie did not want JR following too closely.  We went out the front and down the road as we could not remember if JR had been through the creek yet.  We decided to try it on the way home as the approach is shorter and they do not have much time to look at it and worry.  I went first and JR followed and went in the water beautifully.  I saw a few salmon swimming up stream.  MM almost stepped on one.  Trails were slick and one or two that we went on will not be in our repertoire until next year when it is dry again.  I am looking forward to riding with D again.  Next Monday we plan on arena riding and working on some training.   D had not seen MM in her purple hat and thought it looked cute.

Wednesday we had another great ride with Leigh and her two.  Duchess was very relaxed again and the ride was great.  Leigh went back by the road and Louise and I went back through the creek.  Louise and I ended up riding just over 3 hours.  Both of us had a great time.  She has done very well with Duchess and been fun to ride with.  I have picked up a few pointers along the way also, which is always good.  One of these days, Louise and her daughter will ride with me.  They will each ride one of the drafts.  I hope Prin is on her good behaviour.  When Adam rides Duchess with me, Prin is listening to him not to me.

Getting tired bed time.  I hope my friend Arlene P, gets herself onto FaceBook as it is so easy and fun.  I am having lunch with my longtime friend Arlene K this Thursday and really looking forward to it.  We have not visited for a few months.  Arlene K was one of my first friends when I moved to Washington State and we have kept in touch over the years.

More another day.

More ride and rain

It has been more than a month since I posted last.  I do think about it and then get involved in something else and run out of time.  My friend Dolores sent me a few photos of our rainy ride last May
The bottom two are from Memorial Day weekend when we rode with Tamara from our Horse Meet up group.  D sent about 4 from the rainy ride, but I did get them downloaded properly on my computer so will have to try again.

This is when Miss Minnie could fit into her new Tucker.  I now have to ride her in the wide Tucker I bought for the Belgians.  I had not ridden a lot due to being gone and the weather and I guess she put on a bit of weight.

MM was in really great shape all summer with all the work she got.  Duchess has done very well.  Ronni did a great job on starting her and Louise has done an excellent job on keeping her going and getting used to trail rides.  My goal for 2010 is to be trail riding both horses.  I will alternate days.  I am half looking for a used wide Tucker endurance saddle.  If MM stays this size I need another saddle for Duchess.  Duchess used MM's original Tucker on Wednesday, but Duch is still growing as she is only 4 1/2 years old and she will be getting wider also.

I have met some great people this summer.  Some I ride with a one or two are just new friends.  I enjoy meeting people and learning new things.  Dolores is finally healed and getting ready to ride with me.  If it is nice next Monday we will trail ride, otherwise we will arena ride.  Garry is going to help me with Duchess a few times a month.  I want to take both horses to the arena and ride both.  Duch paws if she is left alone, so Garry will keep her entertained.

I worked with Randy Byers a John Lyons certified trainer and really had a great time.  I hope to work with him some more.  Scot Hansen has not been in our area lately or near enough for me to want to haul too.  I do hope to do more lessons with him at some point.

I miss my weekly Dressage lessons with Ronni.  I worked with her twice last summer and hope to work with her more next year.  Down to the barn.

Riding, Fair and things

The sad news is we had to put Midnight to sleep on Tuesday August 25th.  Midnight was Garry's and was 4 or 5 when I met Garry.  He has lived with me since early 2001.  One Sunday when Garry went to drive back down to Renton, Midnight and my two dogs disappeared conveniently until Garry left.  He had more company up with me so we decided he would stay.  Midnight was a Lab Samoyed cross.  Black but shed constantly and "blew" his coat probably 4 or 5 times a year.  He was always a very sweet dog and nice to be around.  He is missed very much.

I have been riding a lot and having a great time, except for the pain issues.  I am having some stuff done in the next few weeks that will hopefully help that.  Louise is doing a wonderful job riding Duchess.

I started this and then forgot to come back.  We adopted another Samoyed on Tuesday September 22nd.  She is a very sweet girl named Sally.  She is about Chief's size but when she and Harley are out and about sometimes it is hard to tell which dog is which.  I drove down to Ron and and Kathy's place to pick her up.  Sally also came from Spokane.  She was wandering the streets and no one claimed her.  We think she and Harley are about the same age.  Ron says they love people like us as we take the older dogs.  Most folks want a puppy.  At this point we are not set up for a pup so will wait until we get into the new house somewhere in the future.

I have been having lots of great trail rides with my new friends and with some older friends.  Miss Minnie has gotten some miles on her this year and is doing really well.  Randy Byers (a John Lyons certified trainer) was at Lyn's on 9/26 and 5 of us had a wonderful day of lessons with him.  I took Princess and had a very interesting time.  Randy was giving me a hard time for having such a large horse.  I may take Duchess next time just to show him what a large horse is.  I am planning on taking Miss Minnie though.

Our summer seems to have ended, as we have been having rain for the past few days and tonight I kept the horses in.  Got some wall bucket hooks from Tractor supply and more buckets from the co-op and we are in business now.  Hung extra buckets in the mares stalls tonight.  They each have two buckets and I have a third one for each of the Belgians when the colder weather hits us.  I have been having a fire for the past few days part of the day to take the chill and dampness off.

Besides seeing a Chiropractor, I started having massages by a massage therapist occasionally.  It all seems to be working well.

Time to get to bed.

More about August

This has been an amazing year for me.  I got my dream saddle in January and have been using it ever since.  I now feel confident trotting and cantering Miss Minnie out on the trails and have learned how to properly soften her while riding her.  Working with Ronni and Scot has been a lot of fun and very rewarding since I am really progressing nicely.

I joined a horse Meet Up group maybe two years ago.  It split into two groups and the one in my area and introduced me to more ladies to ride with.  I have now ridden with Chris and Leigh twice (today the 3 of us rode) and we have wonderful rides together.  I met Louise who is a very good rider and she rides Duchess once a week on the trail with me.  Our friend Adam has also ridden Duchess twice on trail rides with me and did very well and looks great on her.  I am consistently riding 3 days a week on trail rides from 3 to 4.5 hours and plan to step it up to 4 rides a week.

Hopefully my Orthopaedic surgeon has figured out what causes most of my pain and we will get that under control so I may be able to ride longer on the days I go out.  I am also riding with some ladies, Janice, Diane, Nadine and June, that I have known but now are riding with.  Arlene and Sara Jane and I have gone out and had a good time also.

This has been my dream for my whole life to have several horses and to be able to trail ride.  My husband encourages me and even let me buy a second new Tucker to fit the drafts.  Mine only fits Miss Minnie and Duchess, but Duch will be outgrowing it in the next year or less (probably much less).  Having lighter saddles makes it easier for me and they are so comfortable.

Even though I get really tired from all the riding it has been more than worth it.  This past week I have notice a positive change in Miss Minnie when trail riding her.  She is actually walking faster and has been great about leading through or past things that the other horses I am with balk at.  I am actually thinking that maybe I can do a 30 miles Competitive trail ride on her.  I know she can do it and I hope I can do it also.  Being able to get a horse like Miss Minnie has been terrific.  I know I am a bit single minded about her, but she is great and take such good care of me and my new Tucker saddle sure helps also.  I never move if she does spook at something.

I had better get off to bed.  Just feeling pretty good.  Maybe the pain pill I took has helped with that also  Open-mouthed.

I wish my friend Peggy would come down a couple of more times to ride with me.  HINT HINT HINT!
